Basic Sciences

The Department of Cardiovascular Sciences knows the importance of research in paving the way for the next generation of medical breakthroughs. That is why, in addition to our clinical research, we have a thriving basic science research environment where advances are made every day.

Projects within our department further the fundamental understanding of cardiovascular diseases and therapies, down to even the cellular and molecular levels. In the lab, these projects focus on a range of topics from cardiac mitochondrial function to adult stem-cell therapies for heart repair. As the true complexity of cardiovascular diseases becomes increasingly evident, so too does the need for collaboration across scientific disciplines. Investigators within our department actively work alongside researchers throughout the Brody School of Medicine to explore all aspects of these diseases and emerging treatments.
