Heart Failure Curriculum
The heart failure and mechanical circulatory support rotation offers our cardiology fellows a comprehensive clinical and academic experience.
The heart failure and pulmonary hypertension inpatient consultative service provides detailed heart failure diagnosis and management with emphasis on appropriate risk stratification, adequate decongestive therapy, identification of low-flow cardiac failure and institution of invasive hemodynamic-guided therapy when indicated.
The pulmonary hypertension clinic offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment of pulmonary hypertension including right heart catheterization and initiation and longitudinal management of oral, inhaled and intravenous selective pulmonary vasodilator agents.
The advanced heart failure service provides detailed evaluation of candidacy for advanced heart failure surgical therapies. The heart failure program is in charge of the medical and perioperative management of patients with durable Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs).
Our program has dedicated heart failure cardiologists, advanced practice providers, heart failure clinical pharmacist, certified heart failure nurses and dedicated social worker.
Rotating fellows will have the opportunity to participate in invasive hemodynamic testing procedures and implantation of CardioMEMS for wireless PA pressure monitoring. Fellows have access to hands-on LVAD interrogation and troubleshooting in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. The advanced heart failure cardiologists provide didactic lectures covering basic and clinical topics in heart failure, hemodynamics, pulmonary hypertension, and durable mechanical circulatory support.
We are confident that our cardiology fellows will find the heart failure and mechanical circulatory support rotation clinically and academically fulfilling.
