Cardiac CT and MRI Curriculum
The cardiac MRI and CT rotation provides our cardiology fellows with an integrated experience in advanced cardiovascular imaging. Fellows will learn when and how to apply advanced imaging methods in order to provide the most scientifically sound, outcome driven and cost-effective care to their patients.
For each imaging method there are one-on-one didactic sessions and review of cases for interpretive experience. A comprehensive lectures series dedicated to advanced and multimodality cardiac imaging is presented on a yearly basis.
Our laboratory has two, state of the art, 1.5T MRI scanners and a 128 detector row dual source CT. Work stations and post-processing software (Argus, Medis CMR suite, Circle CVI, Vital Imaging) are available and all studies are archived in PACS. We perform on average 500 cardiac MRI and 300 cardiac CT studies per year including variate pathology: coronary disease, myocardial viability, cardiomyopathies, valvular disease, cardiac masses, pericardial pathology and congenital diseases. We also provide imaging studies before electrophysiology (atrial fibrillation ablation, left atrial appendage exclusion) and structural heart disease procedures (TAVR, robotic mitral valve repair).
The advanced cardiac imaging rotation (MRI/CT) is directed by a Level III trained multimodality imaging cardiovascular specialist and all faculty members have passed the relevant ABIM certifying examinations.
There are 6 MRI and 2 CT technologists as well as dedicated radiology registered nurses supporting stress cardiac MRI procedures.
We hope that our cardiology fellows will find the experience offered by the cardiac MRI and CT rotations intellectually stimulating and directly applicable to their clinical cardiology practice.
